Publishing your Semester 1 Resource List

Univeristy of Ediburgh LogoSemester 1 resource lists should be published before 7th August 2015 deadline to allow sufficient time for the Library to review the list and process any requests for scans and/or book orders.

More information on creating your own list and how to ensure you provide the right information for the Library to process your requests can be found on the Resource List created by Course Organiser web page.

If you published a list in 2014/15, you can use it again for 2015/16. To update and publish your list for 2015/16, follow the steps below.

Sign in to Resource Lists @ Edinburgh and go to ‘My Lists’.

  1. Click on the 2014/15 list. There will be a pale blue note at the top of the list saying ‘A newer version of this list exists in draft form. Click here to review’.
  2. Click through to view the new 2015/16 draft list. Click on the ‘Add to my Lists’ button on the top right of the screen.
  3. You should now see a new 2015/16 version of your list in ‘My Lists’
  4. The list will remain in draft until you decide to publish it.

Course Organisers are encouraged to review and revise their lists before publishing for the new academic year. There is a short PDF guide on how to review and revise your list(s), including information about book recommendations and E-reserve requests.

During our workshops we run through a series of tasks to familiarise attendees with creating, editing, and managing resource lists.

Hands-on Workshop Tasks

In order to be able to create and edit lists on Resource Lists @ Edinburgh you will first need to request List Creator access to the service. You can do this by emailing IS.Helpline@ed.ac.uk.

Important Resource List Update: 2015/16 Time Period

Univeristy of Ediburgh Logo

We are starting preparations for the 2015/16 academic year and will shortly be co-ordinating the rollover of current 2014/15 lists to Session 2015/16.

As part of this process we will shortly create a new Session 2015/16 time period. This allows:

a) Brand new lists to be attached to Session 2015/16

b) Current 2014/15 lists to be rolled over to Session 2015/16

IMPORTANT: If you have a current resource list for Session 2014/15 DO NOT change the time period on your list.

Once roll-over is complete you will have two versions of your list, a 2014/15 version and a 2015/16 version.

– Previous lists will continue to be available to students.

– Rolled over lists will be available for editing and updating to allow for changes in content.

– Old versions may be archived.

Do NOT manually change the time period on your list:

– It will overwrite the 2014/15 version of your list.

– Any links in Learn or Moodle to the 2014/15 list will break.

– Students from previous years will no longer have access to their version of the list.

We will circulate information and guidance on what you need to do to ensure the smooth roll-over of your list(s) when we are ready to do this.

More information on the service can be found on the Resource Lists using Talis Aspire webpage and the ResourceLists@Edinburgh Blog.

Our Library Learning Services team are also happy to come out to Schools to do group demos or one to ones. If you’re interested in this please email IS.Helpline @ ed.ac.uk

Linking to the hierarchy and why it is important

Univeristy of Ediburgh LogoOnce a list has been published on Resource Lists @ Edinburgh it is ESSENTIAL that the list is then linked to the hierarchy.

What is the hierarchy?

The hierarchy is a virtual representation of the organisational structure at Edinburgh. The hierarchy is taken from the Degree Regulations and Programmes of Study (DRPS). So course names and codes should accurately reflect current modules on offer.

We have just uploaded the DRPS for the 2014/15 academic year so your course/module should be active and ready to link to your resource list.

Please contact your Academic Support Librarian or the IS Helpline if your course is not listed and we will add it asap.

It is ESSENTIAL to link your list to the Talis Aspire hierarchy: warning

  1. To allow students to browse to find their resource lists.
  2. In order to allow integration with the VLE (i.e. Learn & Moodle).
  3. To make sure lists are available in subsequent years.
  4. To generate stable URLs for resource lists which you can then use to promote lists to students.

To assist with this process we have created a step-by-step guide on Linking to the hierarchy (PDF). If you have any questions or require assistance please don’t hesitate to contact us at Library.Learning@ed.ac.uk

Additional guides and information can be found on the Resource Lists using Talis Aspire webpage and the ResourceLists@Edinburgh Blog.

We are also running a ‘Hands-on’ introductory session to Resource Lists @ Edinburgh this Wednesday 30th July. Sessions are bookable via MyEd or contact us directly.
