Last year we carried out a review of the Library Blogs service with interested colleagues across L&UC.
The conclusion of that review was that it was no longer appropriate to spend the amount of resource needed for upkeep on the Library Blogs platform.
This conclusion was supported by Ianthe Sutherland and Rebecca Hirsch.
The next step was to migrate actively used blogs from Library Blogs to the University blogging service blogs.ed.ac.uk and to make sure that the other blogs were all archived so that the content could still be accessed if ever needed.
The migrations of active sites have all been completed. Some of those sites are now publicly accessible and the rest are ready to be made public.
The remaining inactive blogs are accessible from either the Internet Archive or the UK Web Archive (and most are available from both). I have taken a complete export of the contents of every blog and those will be accessible in datastore if ever needed in the future.
We are now at the point in the plan where we will be taking the Library Blogs service offline and enabling redirects from the old URLs of the migrated blogs to their new location.
The planned date for turn off is Thursday, 12th November.
