Trial access to Sinica Sinoweb

We have trial access to Sinica Sinoweb until the 20th December.

Sinica Sinoweb provides full-text access to the archive of 14 core journals from Taiwan’s Academia Sinica, with the earliest dating back to as early as 1928:

Trial access to Chinese Electronic Periodicals Services (CEPS) and Chinese Electronic Theses and Dissertations Service (CETD)

logoWe have trial access to the Chinese Electronic Periodicals Services (CEPS) and Chinese Electronic Theses and Dissertations Service (CETD) until the 20th December.

The CEPS/CETD database platform provides full-text access to over 4,300 academic journals from China Mainland (2,600) , Taiwan (1,500) and other areas (254), with 2.6 million articles; it also provides full-text access to over 200,000 doctoral theses and masters dissertations from over 58 universities in Chinese speaking regions including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and China Mainland. The collection date is from 1991 onwards.. The database has been indexed both in traditional and simplified Chinese characters.

Trial – OpenEdition Platform

openeditionWe have trial access to e-book and e-journal content on the OpenEdition platform until the 31st January.

OpenEdition is the umbrella portal for OpenEdition Books, Revues.org, Hypotheses and Calenda, four platforms dedicated to electronic resources in the humanities and social sciences.  We have trial access to 84 e-books and over 300 e-journals. The language of the website can be altered to French, Spanish & Italian.

Trial – BrowZine

BrowZineLogo-FINAL COLORThe Library is running a trial of BrowZine until 19th December.  BrowZine is a new application that allows you to browse, read and follow thousands of the library’s scholarly journals from your Android and iOS mobile devices. All in a format optimized for your tablet and smartphone! Built to accompany your searching needs, items found in BrowZine can easily be synced up with Zotero, Mendeley, RefWorks, Dropbox or other services to help keep all of your information together in one place.

With BrowZine, you can:
Browse and read journals: Browse journals by subject, easily review tables of contents, and download full articles

Emerald Insight Platform Downtime

emerald_logo_newThere will be a period of downtime on the Emerald Insight platform.  This affects e-books and e-journals.

The maintenance is scheduled to take place on Saturday 25 October 2014, between 12am and 3am.  During this maintenance window, Emerald Insight will be unavailable for up to 1 hour.  If you access the website during this time you will receive a ‘connection timeout’, or similar message, within your browser.

 

Emerald Insight – platform upgrade

Emerald Insight have completed their platform upgrade work this week. Prompted by customer feedback, this has resulted in:

  • Increased discoverability – thanks to enriched metadata and search engine optimization
  • Improved usability – due to simplification of the administration area and alignment with other academic publisher platforms
  • Enhanced search – as a result of advanced filter capabilities
  • Industry standard categorization – because of redefined subject taxonomies
  • Heightened security – owing to the implementation of latest access and security protocols
  • Plus an extended range of author and editor services, including downloads of published research and access to historic publication events such as citations in other publications

We have access to over 190 e-journals on the Emerald Insight platform, the titles are listed in our e-journal A-Z list and in the library catalogue.

GeoRef and GeoScience World now available

GSW_rectangleGeoRef and GeoScienceWorld have now been added to our General A-Z list and Geosciences A-Z list.

GeoRef contains 3.4 million bibliographic records to the geosciences literature. Over 3,500 journals are reviewed for indexing in the GeoRef database as well as books, maps, government reports, conference papers, theses and dissertations.  It is hosted on the GeoScienceWorld platform where we now have access to the full text of 45 e-journals published by 28 publishers.  A list of these can be browsed here and have been added to our catalogue and Searcher.
