Palgrave Connect E-Books – New Additions

new-connect-logoOver 600 new e-books from Palgrave have been added to DiscoverEd.  Subject areas include:  Business & Management, Economics & Finance, Education, History, Language & Linguistics, Literature, Media & Culture, Political Science Collection, International Relations & Development, Religion & Philosophy, Social Sciences and Theatre & Performance.

Open Book Publishers Library Membership

logoThe Library has recently taken out membership to Open Book Publishers (OBP).  OBP are an open access publisher, primarily for humanities and social sciences but now expanding into other disciplines.  Further info. about their vision can be found here.  Currently there are 63 books available with a further 12-18 to be published during the next 12 months.  A list of the e-books currently available can be found here.  New titles will be added to DiscoverEd.

Library membership provides students/staff and alumni with the right to freely download any digital edition format of any title from their website.  Library Membership also provides a 15% discount (to staff/student/alumni) on any printed edition of their titles, purchased from their website.

Mass Observation Parts III and IV now available

We have recently purchased two extra collections within Mass Observation – Mass Observation Parts III and IV.  Access this resource via the database A-Z list and DiscoverEd.

Trial access to History of Science and Medicine Library E-Books

logoWe have trial access to the History of Science and Medicine Library e-book collection from Brill until 9th July.

The History of Science and Medicine Library is a peer-reviewed book series devoted to the history of science and medicine, both history of scientific theory as well as the history of the role of science in society and culture from early modern times to the present. The medical studies include medical theory and practice as well as medicine and society.

Archaeopress Digital Subscription Service

ArchaeopresslogoFollowing a successful trial last year we now subscribe to the Archaeopress Digital Subscription Service.

This is a package of e-books in archaeology.   Around 10-15 new books are added each month. Subscribed and open access e-books will be added to the library catalogue/Searcher.  The current list of titles can be found here and future updated lists will be available from our A-Z lists on the library website.

Online access requires the use of our library link listed in the EASE protected password page and then the Archaeopress login listed there.

Trial – ACLS Humanities E-Book package

logoWe have trial access to ACLS Humanities E-Book package until the 5th April.

This electronic resource includes 4,315 full-text, cross-searchable books in the humanities selected by scholars for their continuing importance for research and teaching. Lists of titles can be found online at: http://www.humanitiesebook.org/titlelist.html.

The project includes both in-print and out-of-print books and many prize-winning works. It is a ongoing collaboration of the American Council of Learned Societies, various constituent member learned societies of the ACLS (http://www.humanitiesebook.org/societies.html), and over 100 publishers. 300-500 titles are added every year.

Trial – Cambridge Archive Editions Online

CAE-bannerWe have trial access to Cambridge Archive Editions Online until the 20th February.

Cambridge Archive Editions Online is an extensive collection of historical archive materials on the modern political development of the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf, Russia and the Balkans, the Caucasus, Southeast Asia, and China and the Far East. The collection consists of over 1000 digitised books published by Cambridge University Press which can be accessed in full page images with searchable metadata. This resource is particularly rich for the study of boundary formation, claims and disputes.

China Local Gazetteers and China Economic Statistics – New E-Resources

wanfang data logoFollowing a successful trial on the Wanfangdata platform, we now subscribe to China Local Gazetteers and China Economic Statistics.

China Local Gazetteers is a collection of Chinese local gazetteers published after 1949, covering all regions of China. There are over 26,400 volumes of e-books included in this database which contain a range of information covering various aspects of local economic, social and political life.

China Economic Statistics offers time-series records on macro-economic data, industry and sector data, regional data with over 10,000 economic indicators.

Both e-resources have been added to our Databases A-Z list as well as the Economics and East Asian Studies A-Z subject lists.  They will be listed on our catalogue and Searcher next week.
