Cochrane Clinical Answers – new e-resource

We have recently added Cochrane Clinical Answers to our A-Z list and DiscoverEd.

Cochrane Clinical Answers (CCAs) provide a readable, digestible, clinically focused entry point to rigorous research from Cochrane systematic reviews. They are designed to be actionable and to inform decision-making at the point of care. Each Cochrane Clinical Answer contains a clinical question, a short answer, and an opportunity to ‘drill down’ to the evidence from relevant Cochrane reviews.

Spinal Cord Series and Cases – new e-journal

We now have access to Spinal Cord Series and Cases.  This e-journal has been added to our Nature Publishing  Group package subscription and is now available in DiscoverEdSpinal Cord Series and Cases is an international quarterly subscription based journal, publishing original research articles, small case series, case reports and contributions of a more national or local interest that address all aspects of spinal anatomy, physiology and lesions (injury and disease). Spinal Cord Series and Cases is a multi-disciplinary forum for basic science, clinical and applied studies, psychology and epidemiology of spinal disorders, and is committed to rapid publication.

Sage Research Methods Update

We recently took out a subscription to the Datasets component of Sage Research Methods following a successful trial.

The datasets included in SAGE Research Methods Datasets are taken from government sources and academic research and demonstrate both qualitative and quantitative methods. Each dataset is presented with an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to best demonstrate how the method is applied.

These individual datasets have now been added to DiscoverEd following the Sage Research Methods platform change which involved replacing all of our existing records for the books, videos and case studies we already had a subscription to.

The new Sage Research Methods website has been fully redesigned to make it more modern and user friendly.  It is also fully responsive to the different kinds of mobile devices that may be used.  Sage have also improved the discoverability of content with an improved search and methods map.  Browse options have  been enhanced to allow browsing by discipline, content type and method topic.

JSTOR – Arts and Science XV available

jstor_logoWe now subscribe to the Arts and Science XV package from JSTOR.  Arts & Sciences XV has extensive coverage in the humanities, social sciences and sciences, including literature, film, art, music, religion, classical studies, history, education, economics, political science, and sociology.

This collection currently has 81 titles, it will have more than 150 titles by 2018.  See a list of the available titles here.  These have been added to DiscoverEd.  As further titles are made available by JSTOR, these will automatically be added to DiscoverEd.

Following a successful trial, the Library now subscribes to Vetstream Vetlexicon

Vetstream Vetlexicon Canis, Felis, Lapis and Equis (dogs, cats, rabbits and horses) services are subscription based online encyclopaedias of point-of-care clinical veterinary information.  The content is provided by 900 of the world’s leading veterinary clinicians and includes more than 19,000 peer-reviewed articles on diseases and their pathogens, diagnostic tests, medical and surgical treatments as well as breeds and owner factsheets and images, videos and heart sounds.  The content is categorised into 30 body systems and disciplines and cross-linked to each other. This allows the veterinarian to move between all the relevant information relating to a particular case, enabling them to diagnose, treat and effectively communicate all the relevant information to the owner.
