ClinicalKey – new subscription

Following a successful trial, we now subscribe to Elsevier’s ClinicalKey.

ClinicalKey is a clinical search engine that helps health professionals make decisions anywhere, anytime, in any patient scenario.  It allows you to access the latest (indexed daily), evidence-based answers in every medical and surgical speciality and contains:

* Full-text medical and surgical books and journals
* First Consult point-of-care monographs
* Customizable patient education handouts
* Drug monographs from Gold Standard
* Thousands of videos, including those from Procedures Consult
* Millions of images
* Practice guidelines
* Clinical trials from clinicaltrials.gov
* Fully indexed MEDLINE

Personalisation and App access

Choose “Other institution login” or “Remote Access” to set a personal account.  This will allow you to save articles/images, searches/search history, change language, store presentations, set up table of contents alerts etc.

ClinicalKey can be accessed via the Medicine Databases A-Z list and DiscoverEd.  The individual e-book and e-journal titles have been added to DiscoverEd.  Where there is a restriction on downloading an e-book for offline reading from the ClinicalKey website, we will maintain access on the Elsevier e-Library website where this is allowed – both links will be displayed in DiscoverEd.

Annual Review of Cancer Biology – now available

Annual Review of Cancer Biology has now been added to DiscoverEd.  This e-journal is a new start for 2017 and will review a range of subjects in cancer research that represent important and emerging areas in the field. The Annual Review of Cancer Biology will be divided into three broad themes: Cancer Cell Biology, Tumorigenesis and Cancer Progression, and Translational Cancer Science.

With the renewal of our Karger E-Journals package, we have gained access to a new title – Aesthetics in Dermatology and Surgery

Sociology Source Ultimate now available

We have upgraded our SocIndex with Fulltext subscription to Sociology Source Ultimate.

Sociology Source Ultimate features more than 2.1 million records with subject headings from a 20,000+ term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. Sociology Source Ultimate contains full text for more than 1000 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 1000 books and monographs, and full text for over 40,000 conference papers.  Sociology Source Ultimate features more than 26,000 author profiles covering the most cited and most influential authors in the database, who are experts in their field.  Coverage of topics ranges from gender identity, marriage and family, to demographics, political sociology, religion and socio-cultural anthropology.

Academic Search Complete now available

We have upgraded our Academic Search Premier subscription to Academic Search Complete.

The Academic Search Complete multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 8,500 journals, including full text for more than  7,300 peer-reviewed titles. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,400 journals.  Academic Search Complete offers access to video content from the Associated Press, the world’s leading news agency. Videos relevant to the search terms will appear in a carousel in the result list. With footage from 1930 to the present and updated monthly, this collection of more than 60,000 videos covers a wide variety of topics.

We have now added some more titles to our JoVE collection of video journals.  These can be accessed via DiscoverEd or our E-Journal AZ list.

JoVE Biochemistry publishes experiments that investigate the structure, function, and interactions of biological molecules. The video articles in this section demonstrate methods to study nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids as well as enzyme function, protein folding, molecular interactions and biochemical reactions.

JoVE Cancer Research illustrates experimental approaches in biomedical research and clinical practice aimed at understanding, detecting, treating and preventing cancer. The video articles in this section demonstrate methods to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer, animal models of cancer research, development of new therapies and diagnostics, tumor imaging, chemical and radiation treatments, surgical procedures and improvements in therapy. These video articles offer researchers and clinical practitioners an efficient way to learn the technologies and experimental methods in cancer research.

JoVE Genetics publishes video articles demonstrating experimental approaches to investigate gene function and regulation. This includes methods to study gene expression, mutagenesis, epigenetics, genetic determinants of development, genetic disorders, population genetics and evolution.

Aerial Digimap – New E-Resource now available

We have expanded our Digimap holdings to include Aerial DigimapAerial Digimap provides detailed aerial imagery data from Getmapping at various fixed scales. Most data is post-2011 with updates due each year. Users will be able to view maps through their web browser, save maps for printing and download the map data for use in GIS or CAD software.
