Thanks to recommendations from members of staff and requests via RAB from students the Library is continually adding new books to its collections both online and in print. Trial access to The Encyclopedia of Political Thought

IFThe Library has set up trial access to the online version of The Encyclopedia of Political Thought. You can access this via the E-resources trials page at www.ed.ac.uk/is/databases-trials

Blank BookThe Encyclopedia of Political Thought examines the history of political thought, contemporary political theory, and political philosophy. The entries range in size from shorter definitions and biographies to extended treatments of major topics and traditions. Tracing the evolution of political thinking from antiquity to the present, the scope of this resource emphasizes the richness and diversity of the field’s traditions.

Trial access is available until 25th March 2015. We would welcome feedback on these resources as this helps with making the decision on whether the resources should be considered for subscription or not.

Library doesn’t have a book that you want? Did you know as a student at the University you can request the Library buys books for its collections via the RAB (Request A Book) Service?

RAB_logoLast academic year, 2013/14, the Library purchased 940 books in response to RAB requests. 134 books were ordered directly from requests from students in Social & Political Science, this made approximately 12% of the total requests from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

As exams are almost over and semester one nears its end we are reposting our Top 5 blog posts from this year, every day in the final week of semester.

At number 2, just missing out on the top spot, a very recent post related to the Erving Goffman Memorial Lecture that was delivered by Professor Howard S. Becker on 27th November 2014.
