We have been offered by Adam Matthew Publications a free trial of their new archive resource called Foreign Office Files for the Middle East, 1917-1981. The trial can be accessed from the link below from the University network:
www.archivesdirect.amdigital.co.uk/FO_MiddleEast
The trial ends on 23 March 2016.
This is the digitised archive of UK Foreign Office files concerning the Middle East in the 1970s. It covers the policies, economies, political relationships and significant events of every major Middle East power, as well as conflicts such as the Arab-Israeli War, the Lebanese Civil War and the Iranian revolution. Material types include diplomatic correspondence, minutes, reports, political summaries and personality profiles, maps, newspaper cuttings, printed leaflets, extracts from books, booklets, etc.
The whole database will eventually cover 1971-1981. It is split into three modules:
- Module 1: Middle East, 1971-1974: The 1973 Arab-Israeli War and the Oil Crisis
- Module 2: Middle East, 1975-1978: The Lebanese Civil War and the Camp David Accords (available Autumn 2016)
- Module 3: Middle East, 1979-1981: The Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War (available early 2017)
Therefore, currently only the 1971-1974 content is available.
