Thanks to a request from a HCA student the Library currently has trial access to Early American Newspapers, Series 1 from Readex, which offers fully searchable issues from over 730 invaluable American newspapers from the period 1690-1876.
You can access the Early American Newspapers, Series 1 via the E-resources trials page.
Trial access ends 14th April 2023.
Focusing largely on the 18th and early 19th centuries, this online collection is based on Clarence S. Brigham’s History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820 and other authoritative bibliographies. Providing unprecedented access to the nation’s early periods, Early American Newspapers, Series 1, enables researchers to explore essential newspapers from 23 states and the District of Columbia.
Note that the Library already has access to Early American Newspapers, Series 2. This can be accessed via our Newspapers, Magazines and Other News Sources guide or the Databases A-Z list. While the trial is running the two databases can be cross-searched at the same time.
You can access the Early American Newspapers, Series 1 via the E-resources trials page.

Feedback welcome.
You can find the large range of historical newspapers the Library already has online access to on our Newspapers, Magazines and Other News Sources guide.
Please note, trial access to a resource is an opportunity for our staff and students to try a resource out and give feedback on its quality and usefulness. However, if we trial a resource this is not an indication that we plan to or will be able to purchase or subscribe to the resource in the near future.
