Archives Unbound – Extra Collections Purchased

gdsc-webWe have purchased two additional Archives Unbound modules following a trial earlier this year.

The Mafia in Florida and Cuba: FBI Surveillance of Meyer Lansky and Santo Trafficante, Jr

This collection comprises materials on Santo Trafficante, Jr., Meyer Lansky, and Lucky Luciano, including FBI surveillance and informant reports and correspondence from a variety of offices including, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, New York City, New Orleans, Atlanta, New Haven, New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago; Justice Department memoranda, correspondence, and analyses; Newsclippings and articles; Domestic Intelligence Section reports; Transcriptions of wiretaps, typewriter tapes, and coded messages; Memoranda of conversations.

The collection contains a wealth of primary materials documenting the Spanish Republican period (1931-1939), the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), and the post-War era of Franco’s rule (1939-1975).  The collection’s greatest strengths are the Civil War itself and the immediate post-War years of the 1940s. Included are publications by Republicans, Falangists, Catholics, anarchists, communists, socialists, agrarian reformers, and regional political parties, as well as Spanish exiles and partisans outside Spain.

Both of these collections are listed on our History A-Z list as well as our main database A-Z list and DiscoverEd.

Stalin Digital Archive – new database

Stalin logoFollowing a successful trial, we have now purchased the Stalin Digital Archive database from EastView.

The Stalin Digital Archive contains primary and secondary source material related to Joseph Stalin’s personal biography, his work in government, and his conduct of foreign affairs. A majority of these documents are scanned page images and corresponding bibliographic records in Russian created by the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI). The archive also contains full transcriptions of all of the volumes in Yale University Press’s acclaimed Annals of Communism (AOC) series.

Stalin Digital Archive can be accessed via the databases A-Z list, the History A-Z list or DiscoverEd.

The Parliament Rolls of Medieval England – new database

logoFollowing a successful trial earlier this year, we have now purchased the Parliament Rolls of Medieval England database.

The rolls of parliament were the official records of the meetings of the English parliament from the reign of Edward I (1272 – 1307) until the reign of Henry VII (1485 – 1509), after which they were superseded by the journals of the lords and, somewhat later, of the commons. The rolls, which amount in total to over four million words, were first edited in the eighteenth century and published in 1783 in six folio volumes entitled Rotuli Parliamentorum ( RP ) under the general editorship of the Reverend John Strachey.

This database can be access via our Databases A-Z list, History A-Z list or DiscoverEd.

jstor_logo

We now subscribe to JSTOR Arts & Sciences XIII and Arts & Sciences XIV packages.

The Arts & Sciences XIII Collection adds an increasingly international set of journals in disciplines including Language & Literature, Art & Art History, Philosophy, and Religion. Represented subdisciplines include European church history and the literature of the American West.  The collection offers a global scope. European countries including Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands each contribute several titles, with an additional title published in South Korea, the Journal of Korean Religions.  The collection will contain at least 125 titles by completion.

The Arts & Sciences XIV Collection brings together more than 125 journals devoted to the study of culture and communication, from civilization’s earliest traces to the growth and governance of peoples. All titles are new to the JSTOR platform at the time of launch. Journals in the collection span 17 countries, 23 disciplines, and date back to 1839. They are drawn primarily from the fields of Archaeology, Language & Literature, Communications Studies, Asian Studies, and Political Science.  As this collection was only released last month, not all titles are online yet – these will be added to our catalogue/A-Z list as they become available.

See http://www.jstor.org/action/collectionsAvailable for title lists.  We have added the individual e-journals currently available to our e-journal A-Z list and they will be added to our catalogue/searcher soon.
