Dawsonera – access problem

One of our major e-book providers – Dawsonera is continuing to suffer from technical issues logorelating to logins and downloading e-books.

They will post updates to twitter @dawsonera when they have updates – they have not been able to provide a timescale for resolution.

This issue is now resolved.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    Our investigation has identified that dawsonera has seen an unexpected increase in user traffic recently which has contributed to the performance and download issues that have been experienced on the platform over the last couple of days.

    Currently we are working towards deploying a release to dawsonera this afternoon which we believe will improve the general performance and stability of the site.

    In addition to this release, we will be conducting a number of technical activities in the background which will support our efforts to remedy the current situation.

    As soon as the above measures have been implemented and assessed by our technical team, we will issue you with a progress update.

    We once again apologise for the unsatisfactory service.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    Following our communication on Friday, we successfully deployed a release to dawsonera, which has seen an increase in performance and we hope that you and your users will also have noticed this.

    Whilst this is positive news, there are however additional enhancements that need to be addressed on the platform and we will be progressing with these throughout the day.

    Upon completion of these activities, we will issue further progress updates to customers and keep you abreast of any information as it becomes available.

    We once again thank you for your continued patience in this matter.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    We had sincerely hoped that we would be in a position to rectify the performance issues affecting dawsonera in an efficient manner, but due to the nature of the problem this has not been possible.

    Our technical teams are diligently working to resolve these issues on dawsonera, but this process is taking longer than originally anticipated and whilst we continue to make progress to rectify the situation there may be intermittent problems that you and your users experience whilst on the platform for the remainder of the week.

    As such, it is with regret that we are not in a position to issue a timescale for resolution but can assure you that as a business our current priority is on dawsonera. We understand that this is a critical time of year for students to be accessing content and can assure you that our focus is to restore normal service levels as soon as possible.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    dawsonera will be offline between the hours of 23:00 and 23:30 tonight while we perform essential maintenance in light of recent issues with the platform.

    In addition, we have temporarily removed some graphics and the most read carousels from the home page, which will see improvements to the loading time.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    We would like to update you on the maintenance work that took place last night, we can confirm that this work was completed successfully allowing us to relocate a number of network servers.

    As today progresses, we will be monitoring the performance through peak usage. The outcome of this will then allow us to plan further improvements to ensure a reliable and stable platform.

    We can confirm that we are making good progress with changes and eliminating potential causes.

    We would like to thank you for your patience during the recent outage.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    Unfortunately we are still experiencing some problems with the dawsonera site being slower than expected and have recently experienced intermittent outages.

    Whilst we continue to work towards resolving these problems we will be required to carry out planned maintenance and as such dawsonera will be offline between the hours of 23:00 BST and 00:00 BST tonight whilst we perform these updates.

    We are continuing to work through identifying and eliminating potential causes and therefore are unable to provide a timescale for resolution.

    We realise that this continued level of service is below expectation and can assure you that we are working towards a complete resolution.

    We have received the following update from Dawsonera:

    Hopefully you and your users will have noticed the increased stability of the platform which resulted in 100% availability.

    Whilst this is positive news, we can assure you that we continue to be focussed on completing the outstanding action points on our improvement plan and delivering these in a timely manner.

    As mentioned two weeks ago, there are some larger pieces of work that need to be completed around the DRM component and the user interface optimisations and we are pleased with the progress we are making in both these areas and aim to provide you with clearer time scales for completion dates for both these activities in the forthcoming weeks.

    Aside from the work mentioned above, there are daily optimisations being made that assist us in fine tuning the site and that bring out improvements to both performance and stability on the platform.
