Through the Library you have access to a wide range of digital archives and digital primary source databases to help you with your learning and research.

Gale produce several of these digital archives we have access to including well-known newspaper archives and newspaper collections, such as The Times, The Daily Mail, British Library Newspapers, 19th Century US Newspapers, as well as digital primary source collections like Archives Unbound, U.S. Declassified Documents Online, Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) and it’s award-wining series Archives of Sexuality and Gender.

The Gale Ambassador Library Support Program is a paid opportunity for students to work with a publisher, develop valuable career skills such as public speaking, content production, marketing and networking (great content for your CV/resume), as well as learning ways to improve your current research skills. Gale is recruiting for an Ambassador at Edinburgh and would welcome applications from those students studying an Arts, Humanities or Social Science subject; all years (UG to PhD) are eligible.

The role, which lasts for the 2023/24 academic year, involves promoting the fascinating Gale digital resources that are available to students at the University of Edinburgh to other students at the university. Gale Ambassadors are paid £700 to complete specified promotional activities (such as writing a blog post, social media posts and running live events).

Full training is provided. There’s also the opportunity to meet and work with ambitious and creative students at other universities in the UK, US and elsewhere, as well as work with international colleagues at Gale.
