{"id":133,"date":"2015-05-08T15:39:09","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T15:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/stcecilias\/?p=133"},"modified":"2015-05-08T15:39:09","modified_gmt":"2015-05-08T15:39:09","slug":"fundingboost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/stcecilias\/2015\/05\/08\/fundingboost\/","title":{"rendered":"St Cecilia&#8217;s captures donor&#8217;s imagination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The project to renovate Scotland\u2019s oldest concert hall has received a generous donation from a University alumnus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bequest of \u00a35,000 was donated by Robert McCracken, LLB who graduated in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McCracken said: \u201cI donated to the St Cecilia\u2019s Hall project because it captured my interest and imagination in a number of different ways that were important to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirstly, it has strong historic significance for the City of Edinburgh, where I attended school and university, and to which I still have strong links. Secondly, it appealed to my interest in music, both for its beauty and potential as a venue for baroque music, and as a home for a wonderful period collection of harpsichords and other similar instruments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter very kindly being given a guided tour of the instruments, including a fascinating chat with the curator, I was hooked!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The donation is a further boost to the project, which received a \u00a3100,000 award from Edinburgh World Heritage earlier this year, and \u00a3825,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in March 2014.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to find out more about supporting the St Cecilia\u2019s Hall project, please email <a href=\"mailto:Leisa.Thomas@ed.ac.uk\">Leisa.Thomas@ed.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The project to renovate Scotland\u2019s oldest concert hall has received a generous donation from a University alumnus.
