Resource Lists Rollover 2016: what you need to know

On Friday 3rd June, Library Learning Services will rollover your 2015/16 Resource Lists to 2016/17.

Course Organisers …

Publish any unpublished changes to your Resource Lists by 5pm on Thursday 2nd June (the evening before).

If not, any unpublished changes WILL NOT rollover. In order to avoid this happening, we will go through and publish any unpublished changes.

Please do not edit your list during the rollover period from 9am on Friday 3rd June until 10am on 6th June. Any changes made during this period may be lost. If rollover is complete by end of Friday, we’ll let you know by circulating an update the mailing list and posting on the blog.

Avoid requesting a review during the rollover period.

• Your current 2015/16 Resource List will still be available after Rollover.

• Your new 2016/17 Resource List will be rolled over as published, so you will not have to republish your list.

• You are strongly encouraged to review your Resource List for 2016/17 and, if there are significant changes or you’ve added new items to the list, request a review by 18th July.There’s more information about when to request a review on the IS website.

• If you don’t request a review, your list won’t be automatically checked for new book orders or e-reserve requests.

No longer responsible for a course?  Let us know  and we’ll update the list with the new course organiser’s details.

If you have any questions about rollover or Resource Lists, please get in touch.

A wee reminder that during May-July we’re running lunchtime drop in sessions and a series of workshops (bookable via MyEd).

Resource Lists drop-ins

While course organisers are busy reviewing reading lists over the summer months, we’ll be running a series of lunchtime Resource Lists drop in sessions: we know that many of you only need to use the system once a year so we’ll be on hand to provide any guidance or assistance you’d like as you refresh your lists.

What we can help with

If you have any questions at all about your resource lists, or want to find out more about how to create a new one or what you can do with resource lists, please feel free to come along.

Topics that come up frequently are:

  • How to prepare your list for rollover and the new semester;
  • How to create and add bookmarks;
  • Adding your list to LEARN or Moodle;
  • Adding online articles or ebooks to your list.

We’ll also be happy to run through our workbook with you and to set you up in the system.

Resource Lists Service Statement revised: 10 things you need to know

Making the Library easier
Using Resource Lists Academic teaching staff can avoid filling out multiple forms by sending a reading list and completed coversheet to Libraray.Learning@ed.ac.uk . Provided all the information we need is included, the Library will process E-reserve, print reserve requests and purchase course reading based on a set of ratios.

Resource Lists Service Statement revised
To make this work we’ve had to look closely at our existing library workflows and figure out how we can integrate the work of several different library teams and make sure our colleagues across all the sites know what to expect from Resource Lists.

The Resource List Service Statement provides the detail (and Librarian’s love detail!) that explains who will do what to make sure the Library delivers on the course materials students need. It also explains how we’ll manage exceptions to the rules.

Don’t let the 13 pages put you off reading it. If you want a comprehensive overview of how we’re managing Resource Lists this year, this document is for you! Resource List Service Statement v2 (PDF) If not, you’ll find all the essential information our webpages:http://edin.ac/resource-lists
