{"id":271,"date":"2016-11-04T09:51:01","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T09:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/?p=271"},"modified":"2016-11-04T09:51:01","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T09:51:01","slug":"databases-on-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/2016\/11\/04\/databases-on-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Databases on trial!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some news of a few more databases currently on trial from ProQuest until the end of November.\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-273\" src=\"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/11\/Proquest.png\" alt=\"proquest\" width=\"203\" height=\"68\" \/>While not directly related to PPLS subject areas, there is still\u00a0much that will be of general interest to many of you, with lots of great reading on offer!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>British Periodicals III and IV <\/strong><\/em>focuses on the first half of the twentieth century, providing archival coverage of several of the leading magazines of the period that were highly influential in their mix of news\/politics, art, photography, literature and comedy\/satire.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Historic Literary Criticism<\/strong><\/em> is a collection of over 20,000 historical contemporary reviews, essays and commentary related to more than 500 influential authors from the 17th to early 20th century.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Los Angeles Times Historical Archive,1881-1992<\/strong><\/em> offers not only news articles but the advertisements, marriage announcements, obituaries and cartoons that provide additional\u00a0historical context.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>News, Policy &amp; Politics Magazine Archive<\/strong><\/em> offers runs of 20th-century titles, in full-color, page-image format, with titles that include\u00a0<em>Newsweek, UN Chronicle, NATO Review<\/em> and <em>New Internationalist<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Women&#8217;s Magazine Archive I and II<\/strong><\/em> comprises archival runs of leading women\u2019s consumer magazines of the twentieth century, all scanned from cover to cover in high-resolution color.
