{"id":225,"date":"2016-08-02T12:47:40","date_gmt":"2016-08-02T12:47:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/?p=225"},"modified":"2016-08-12T09:48:08","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T09:48:08","slug":"godfrey-thomson-the-man-who-tested-scotlands-iq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/2016\/08\/02\/godfrey-thomson-the-man-who-tested-scotlands-iq\/","title":{"rendered":"Godfrey Thomson: the man who tested Scotland&#8217;s IQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This absolutely splendid and\u00a0superbly mounted\u00a0exhibition on the life,\u00a0work and legacy\u00a0of educational researcher, Professor Godfrey Thomson (1881-1955),\u00a0has just opened in the Exhibition Hall of the University&#8217;s Main Library in George Square.<\/p>\n<p>Curated by Professor Ian Deary of the School of PPLS, this very rich\u00a0and rewarding exhibition will\u00a0certainly merit\u00a0more than one visit.\u00a0It features a range of fascinating artefacts from the University&#8217;s fairly recently acquired Godfrey Thomson Archive\u00a0and provides a\u00a0great insights into the life and work of this most remarkable man.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Professor Sir Godfrey Hilton Thomson (1881\u20131955), an internationally recognised and respected\u00a0educator and intelligence theorist, was also the largest-scale producer of IQ tests in Europe.\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-228\" src=\"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"godfrey_thomson\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson-768x560.jpg 768w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson-1024x746.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson-412x300.jpg 412w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/pplslibrarian\/files\/2016\/08\/godfrey_thomson.jpg 1190w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Professor Thomson held both the Chair of Education at the University of Edinburgh and the post of Director of Studies at the Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre at Moray House from 1925 until 1951.
