{"id":73,"date":"2015-03-23T16:34:47","date_gmt":"2015-03-23T16:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/loch\/?p=73"},"modified":"2015-03-23T16:38:58","modified_gmt":"2015-03-23T16:38:58","slug":"march-update-from-loch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/loch\/2015\/03\/23\/march-update-from-loch\/","title":{"rendered":"March Update from LOCH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00a0realise we&#8217;ve been a bit quiet recently, so it is high time we posted an update to let you know what we have been doing over the last few months! \u00a0 The good news is that we now have a case study and a number of related documents which we are pleased to be able to share with you. \u00a0We hope that these documents will provide some inspiration and assistance in planning and gearing up for Open Access in the next REF.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARMA Good Practice Event<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last week Janet Aucock and I attended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arma.ac.uk\/events\/training-and-development\/good-practice-exchange\/neventitem.2014-12-19.7415808478\">ARMA&#8217;s Good Practice Exchange event<\/a>, at which we presented St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities&#8217; approaches to preparing for OA in the next REF. \u00a0St Andrews are adopting a more central approach with the library taking ownership for all the administration, whilst here at Edinburgh, we are adopting a more decentralized approach, with more work being carried out in Schools and Colleges. \u00a0We&#8217;ve made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10015\">St Andrews<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10009\">Edinburgh&#8217;s slides<\/a> available, as well as our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10014\">planning checklists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Access Implementation Case Study &#8211; College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anna Krzak, Edinburgh&#8217;s Open Access Administrator in CMVM has kindly put together a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10010\">case study looking at the specifics of implementing the REF OA requirements in the context of medical sciences<\/a>. \u00a0Hopefully this will be of use to other Universities. \u00a0If you have any comments about this then please contact either <a href=\"mailto:anna.krzak@ed.ac.uk\">anna.krzak@ed.ac.uk<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:dominic.tate@ed.ac.uk\">dominic.tate@ed.ac.uk<\/a> and we would gladly discuss this work further.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communications Best Practice &#8211; Example Emails<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here at Edinburgh, we are starting to contact academics about the new requirements, and you might be interested to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10012\">exemplar draft email<\/a>, which is intended to be sent to all staff in the College of Medicine. \u00a0This second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10011\">example email<\/a> was sent to all staff in the School of Mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Implementation Plans &amp; Job Descriptions &#8211; Humanties &amp; Social Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Edinburgh is in the process of agreeing implementation plans within many of its Schools to agree locally how the new OA requirements will apply, and to details the processes needed to make this happen. \u00a0We&#8217;re delighted to include here an example <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk\/handle\/1842\/10013\">School Implementation Plan<\/a>, drafted by Jacq McMahon (Research Officer in the College of Humanities &amp;
