{"id":178,"date":"2016-08-04T07:51:27","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T07:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/?p=178"},"modified":"2016-08-04T07:51:27","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T07:51:27","slug":"main-library-summer-improvements-2016-update-382016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/2016\/08\/04\/main-library-summer-improvements-2016-update-382016\/","title":{"rendered":"Main Library Summer Improvements 2016  &#8211; Update 3\/8\/2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Work is continuing in the Main Library on a programme of works to bring significant improvements for library users through increasing the number of study spaces by 350 and providing additional power and data facilities at study desks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work underway this week (1<sup>st<\/sup>-8<sup>th<\/sup> August) and updates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor \u2013 <\/strong>Construction work to remove empty shelves and carry out electrical works is underway on the north side of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor. The collections JV-PB are currently cordoned off and access to these items is through consultation with Helpdesk staff located on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor or Ground Floor 9.15-4.45 Monday to Friday, or through emailing <a href=\"mailto:collections-management@ed.ac.uk\">collections-management@ed.ac.uk<\/a> at other times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Move of collections 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor to 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Collections from the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor now permanently located on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All P Pamphlets<\/li>\n<li>All P Folios<\/li>\n<li>P books<\/li>\n<li>PA books<\/li>\n<li>PB books<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Signs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The updating of shelf-end signs is currently underway and we expect this to be completed this week.<\/p>\n<p>We are also working on updating the main Library signs and will have accurate signs in place at the completion of the Main Library works.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DiscoverEd Search Points<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are currently updating the information in DiscoverEd and the information retrieved will then reflect the new location of items that have moved from the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor to the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compression of Compressions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The addition of new study spaces on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> floors is made possible through the compression of the collections on the shelves to provide free shelving that can be removed.
