{"id":147,"date":"2016-07-22T07:42:53","date_gmt":"2016-07-22T07:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/?p=147"},"modified":"2016-07-22T07:42:53","modified_gmt":"2016-07-22T07:42:53","slug":"compressing-collections-to-create-more-study-spaces-update-21-july-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/2016\/07\/22\/compressing-collections-to-create-more-study-spaces-update-21-july-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Compressing collections to create more study spaces &#8211; update 21 July 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week we have finished compressing Main Library collections on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor and have moved up to the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor.<\/p>\n<p>Our contractors have moved collections on over 10,000 metres of shelving \u2013 quite an achievement!<\/p>\n<p>In the coming weeks the empty shelving resulting from the compression will be removed, and additional study spaces added. This work has included a large amount of noisy reconfiguration of shelving and has restricted access to lifts and collections so apologies for the disruption caused.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been struck by how understanding our users have been during the work, so thank you all for your continuing patience.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the collections (pamphlets and folios in P and the full collections of P, PA and PB) previously on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor have now moved down to the 2nd floor.<\/p>\n<p>The 2<sup>nd<\/sup> floor now has collections A-PB and the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor has collections PC-Z.<\/p>\n<p>Signs will be updated accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-152\" src=\"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/gunnblogpost.jpg\" alt=\"gunnblogpost\" width=\"629\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/gunnblogpost.jpg 629w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/gunnblogpost-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/libraryredevelopment\/files\/2016\/07\/gunnblogpost-500x240.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is part of the wider ongoing work to improve the Main Library over the summer \u2013 more posts to follow\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week we have finished compressing Main Library collections on the 2nd floor and have moved up to the 3rd floor.
