The latest release of DiscoverEd\u00a0includes some\u00a0very useful\u00a0new features and\u00a0functionality.\u00a0 Read on for full details…<\/p>\n

1. New\u00a0Filter for Special Collections Material<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A new “Special Collections”<\/strong>\u00a0filter has been added to the Show Only<\/strong>\u00a0filters section.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Selecting this\u00a0filter allows\u00a0you to limit the results of your search to\u00a0material\u00a0held at\u00a0the Centre for Resource Collections (CRC)<\/a> and other special collections in the Main Library, the Library Annexe (our off-campus storage facility), New College Library, Moray House Library and ECA Library.<\/p>\n

2. Exclude\/Include Multiple Filters<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is now possible to select multiple\u00a0filters to include or exclude\u00a0items\u00a0from your search results:<\/p>\n

To include<\/strong> a filter, hover on the\u00a0filter name and click on the tick box which appears to the left<\/em>.<\/p>\n

To exclude<\/strong> a filter, hover over the filter name and click on the Exclude This..<\/strong> icon which appears to the right<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You can exclude or include as many\u00a0filters as you wish.\u00a0\u00a0 When you are finished making your selections, click on the APPLY FILTERS<\/strong> button to apply your selected filters to your search results.<\/p>\n

3. Sticky Filters<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is now possible to apply a set of filters to a search and make them “sticky” for the remainder of your DiscoverEd session.\u00a0\u00a0 For\u00a0example, you may wish to make the “Full Text Online”<\/strong> Show Only<\/em> filter and the “Books”<\/strong> Resource Type filter sticky.\u00a0 This would result in subsequent searches being limited to electronic books.<\/p>\n

To make filters sticky:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Run an initial search in DiscoverEd and apply the filter(s) you wish.<\/li>\n
  2. In the “Active filters” <\/strong>section, hover over the name of a filter you wish to make sticky.\u00a0 A small opened padlock icon<\/em> will appear.\u00a0 Click on this icon and it will change to a closed padlock icon<\/em>.\u00a0 Repeat this process for each of the filters you want to make sticky.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you want to remove sticky filters at any stage in your session, simply repeat the above process, this time changing the closed padlock icon<\/em> back to the open padlock icon<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    4.\u00a0 Sort items in My Favourites<\/strong><\/p>\n

    It is now possible to sort the items you have stored in My Favourites by Date Added<\/strong>, Title<\/strong> and Author<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    To use this functionality, simply go to your My Favourites<\/strong> and use the Sort by<\/strong> dropdown menu to apply the sort order you require.<\/p>\n

    5.\u00a0Support for RSS Feeds<\/strong><\/p>\n

    DiscoverEd now allows you to harvest the results of a saved search in your chosen RSS reader application.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Make sure you are signed in to DiscoverEd.<\/li>\n
    2. Run a search and click on Save this search to My Favourites<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Go to My Favourites <\/strong>and select the SAVED SEARCHES<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
    4. Click on the RSS icon\u00a0on the right hand side of the display.<\/li>\n
    5. Follow your usual procedure for setting up an RSS feed in your browser or dedicated RSS reader application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You can also\u00a0create an RSS feed for any of the\u00a0searches you have\u00a0already saved in My Favourites by following steps 3-5 above.<\/p>\n
