*The Library now has permanent access to the Women’s Magazine Archive I and II<\/a> and News, Policy & Politics Magazine Archive<\/a>. We also have access to all British Periodicals collections until 31st July 2024 as part of ProQuest Access 350<\/a>.*<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Library currently has trial access to 3 magazine and periodical archives, British Periodicals III and IV<\/strong>, News, Policy & Politics Magazine Archive<\/strong> and Women’s Magazine Archive I and II<\/strong>. These give access to a wide range of full-text magazines from around the early 20th century onwards including The Tatler<\/em>, The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News<\/em>, Chatelaine<\/em>, Newsweek<\/em>, The Sketch<\/em>, Good Housekeeping<\/em>, Seventeen<\/em> and Cosmopolitan<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You can access all of these online resources via the E-resources trials page<\/a><\/strong>. Access is available both on and off-campus.<\/p>\n

Women’s Magazine Archive I and II<\/h1>\n

Women\u2019s Magazine Archive<\/strong> comprises archival runs of leading women\u2019s consumer magazines of the twentieth century. The magazines are all scanned from cover to cover in high-resolution color, ensuring that the original print artefacts are faithfully reproduced and that valuable non-article items, such as advertisements, are included. Titles include Chatelaine<\/em> (1940-2005), Cosmopolitan<\/em> (1965-1989), Essence<\/em> (1970-1977), Good Housekeeping<\/em> (1886-1932), Ladies\u2019 Home Journal<\/em> (1887-1954), Redbook<\/em> (1903-2002) and Seventeen*<\/em>.<\/p>\n

News, Policy & Politics Magazine Archive<\/h1>\n

\"news_policy_politics_magazine_archive\"Offering full runs of 20th-century titles, in full-color, page-image format, News, Policy and Politics Magazine Archive<\/strong> makes newly available and accessible these key sources, for which the archival print issues have not consistently been retained by libraries. Titles include Americas<\/em> (1949-2012), Europe<\/em> (1954-2002), NATO Review<\/em> (1953-2001), New Internationalist<\/em> (1973-2013), Newsweek<\/em> (1933-2012) and UN Chronicle<\/em> (1964-2012).<\/p>\n

British Periodicals III and IV<\/h1>\n

British Periodicals Collections III and IV<\/strong> extend the scope of British Periodicals I-II<\/strong> by focusing on the first half of the twentieth century. They provide archival coverage of several of the leading magazines of the period, including titles from the prestigious stable of illustrated periodicals known as the \u201cGreat Eight\u201d in the British publishing history. They are considered to be among the foremost popular periodicals of the period and were highly influential in their mix of news\/politics, art, photography, literature and comedy\/satire. Titles include Bystander<\/em> (1903-1940), The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News<\/em> (1874-1970), The Sketch<\/em> (1893-1959) and The Tatler<\/em> (1901-1967).<\/p>\n

The Library already subscribes to a variety of online resources that provide you with access to periodicals and magazines from different time periods, including American Periodicals<\/strong>, British Periodicals I and II<\/strong>, Country Life<\/strong> Archive<\/strong>,\u00a0Harper Bazaar\u2019s<\/strong> Archive<\/strong>, Nineteenth Century UK Periodicals<\/strong> and Vogue<\/strong> Archive<\/strong>. You can access these and others via the Databases A-Z list<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Access is only available to current students and staff at University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
