Following a successful trial in semester one I am pleased to let you know the Library now has a subscription to the Bayeux Tapestry Digital Edition<\/strong>. This online version allows you to scroll through the entire Tapestry and zoom in on the Tapestry to the level of the actual weave.<\/p>\n

You can access the Bayeux Tapestry Digital Edition <\/strong>via the Databases A-Z list <\/a><\/strong>and the Digital primary source and archive collections guide<\/a>. <\/strong>You can also access it via DiscoverEd<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As well as including general descriptions of the forty\u00a0scenes of the Tapestry, intended as a beginner\u2019s guide, Bayeux Tapestry Digital Edition<\/strong> also includes commentary<\/strong> on each of the 173 panels, detailing all major and minor interpretative issues in the Tapestry; the ability to toggle between English and Latin in the inscriptions; a clickable\u00a0genealogy<\/strong> of William and Harold\u2019s ties to the English throne; an animated and clickable\u00a0map<\/strong> of English and Norman geography of the Tapestry, and a map of the battlefield; a\u00a0library<\/strong> featuring translations of seventeen textual analogues to the events depicted in the Tapestry; a\u00a0museum<\/strong> containing thirty-seven visual analogues (medieval artifacts, manuscript illuminations, archaeological remains, etc.) to aspects of the Tapestry; full scrollable and zoomable versions of three early (pre-restoration)\u00a0facsimiles of the Tapestry and much, much more.<\/p>\n
