I’m pleased to let you know that thanks to a request from a student in HCA the Library currently has trial access to the Daily Mail Historical Archive (1896-2004)<\/strong> from Gale Cengage. Whatever your feelings about the Daily Mail <\/em>this is a fascinating archive providing access to over 100 years of the newspaper, while also providing an important alternative perspective to newspapers such at The Times<\/em>, The Guardian<\/em>, etc.<\/p>\n

You can access the database via the E-resources trials<\/strong><\/a> page.
\nAccess is available both on and off-campus.<\/p>\n

Trial access ends 9th February 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The resource includes\u00a0nearly 1.2 million pages of content from the paper, including all of the major news stories, features, advertisements and images. And as well as the regular edition of the newspaper, uniquely the Daily Mail Historical Archive<\/strong> also includes the Daily Mail Atlantic Edition<\/i>, which was published on board the transatlantic liners that sailed between New York and Southampton between 1923 and 1931. Issues of the Daily Mail Atlantic Edition<\/em> are very rare and not available digitally from any other source.<\/p>\n

Love it or loathe it, the Daily Mail<\/em> is seen as one of Britain’s most influential papers and can be useful\u00a0 to compare and contrast with other newspaper archives the Library has access to such at The Times Digital Archive<\/strong>, The Guardian and The Observer Archive<\/strong>, British Library Newspapers<\/strong>, UK Press Online<\/strong>, etc.<\/p>\n

While the trial is running you will also be able to cross-search the Daily Mail Historical Archive<\/strong> along with the other newspaper archives we have access to from Gale, via Gale’s NewsVault<\/a>. You can also cross-search with other primary source archives from Gale via Gale Primary Sources<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can access all the online newspaper archives already available at the Library via the Newspapers & Magazines database list<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Access is only available to current students and staff at University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
