One of them is that we have a new professional joining our team, to work with Kerry Miller in the role of Research Data Support Officer &#8211; Simon Smith.<\/p>\n<p>The University&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalresearchservices.ed.ac.uk\/\">Digital Research Services<\/a> programme makes it possible to fund this post for the Research Data Service &#8211; deemed an essential addition following a period of reduced resource, because of the need to increase outreach, training and awareness, and take-up of services in the light of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/2022\/03\/10\/new-research-data-management-policy\/\">Research Data Management Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3817 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/files\/2022\/04\/simon-smith.jpg\" alt=\"portrait of Simon Smith\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/files\/2022\/04\/simon-smith.jpg 250w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/files\/2022\/04\/simon-smith-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/files\/2022\/04\/simon-smith-144x144.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Simon has worked in Research Data Management since 2015, when he joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surrey.ac.uk\/library\/open-research\">Open Research Team at the University of Surrey<\/a>. He has spent his time helping to develop a range of research data management (RDM) services, implementing two repositories, and learning to love data management planning. He is genuinely interested in issues around data licencing and sensitive\/personal data. His teaching and research background is in philosophy, in the service of which he edited a scholarly journal. Now, however, he is slightly obsessed with James Joyce\u2019s <em>Ulysses<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Simon has been in post for nearly 2 weeks, and is keen to meet researchers and their supporters from all corners of the university &#8211; please send any and all invitations to come chat about RDM to <a href=\"mailto:data-support@ed.ac.uk\">data-support@ed.ac.uk<\/a>!
