{"id":3330,"date":"2020-05-20T12:12:41","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T11:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/?p=3330"},"modified":"2020-05-20T12:12:41","modified_gmt":"2020-05-20T11:12:41","slug":"protecting-sensitive-data-mantra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/datablog\/2020\/05\/20\/protecting-sensitive-data-mantra\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Protecting sensitive data&#8217;: new MANTRA unit now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Research Data Support team are pleased to announce a new update to <a href=\"https:\/\/mantra.edina.ac.uk\/\">MANTRA<\/a>, the free and open online research data management training course.<\/p>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/mantra.edina.ac.uk\/protectionrightsandaccess\/\">\u2018Protecting sensitive data\u2019<\/a> module has been created from scratch, replacing the previous \u2018Data protection, rights and access\u2019 unit to provide an up-to-date guide for researchers working with sensitive and personal data.<\/p>\n<p>MANTRA is designed to give post-graduate students, early career researchers, and information professionals the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with research data.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Protecting sensitive data\u2019 unit considers the ethical and legal contexts for conducting research with sensitive data, including information and guidance on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What makes data sensitive?<\/li>\n<li>What UK and European data protection laws mean for research<\/li>\n<li>Research ethics, informed consent and consent documentation<\/li>\n<li>Approvals processes and accessing restricted data<\/li>\n<li>Safeguarding sensitive data, including data retention limits, access controls and anonymisation<\/li>\n<li>Data protection training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MANTRA is designed to be approachable and informative, and incorporates text and video content plus quizzes, interactive exercises and a \u2018further reading\u2019 section.<\/p>\n<p>We hope you find the new content interesting and useful, and we welcome comments on the new unit, as well as feedback on the other seven MANTRA modules.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the RDS team are currently working on a series of further updates to MANTRA which will be rolled out over the coming weeks, and information about these releases will be posted on this blog and the RDS Twitter account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Sanders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MANTRA, Lead Editor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Research Data Support team are pleased to announce a new update to MANTRA, the free and open online research data management training course.
