{"id":47,"date":"2012-09-17T06:03:24","date_gmt":"2012-09-17T06:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/benefitsofsharing\/?p=47"},"modified":"2012-09-29T07:59:38","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T07:59:38","slug":"lms-day-booking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraryblogs.is.ed.ac.uk\/benefitsofsharing\/2012\/09\/lms-day-booking\/","title":{"rendered":"LMS Day &#8211; Booking information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>The Benefits of Sharing: LMS Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Date: 5<sup>th<\/sup> October 2012<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Time: 10:00 \u2013 16:00<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Venue: The Enterprise Zone, University Library, University of Stirling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This one-day event will ask the question, \u201cWould a shared library management system improve services in Scotland?\u201d.\u00a0 The event is being run by the SCURL led \u2018The Benefits of Sharing\u2019 project, funded by JISC as part of its LMS Pathfinder Programme.<\/p>\n<p>The day will focus on active participation for attendees, including round-table discussion and group work aimed at exploring the question in depth. By the end of the day we aim to have a clearer understanding of both the benefits and drawbacks of a shared LMS within Scotland, and a clear indication of whether the vision of the shared LMS is a viable and useful one for Scottish libraries.\u00a0 The outcomes of this discussion will feed back into JISC\u2019s investigations in this area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Should Attend?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Anyone with an interest in Library Management Systems and the services they provide to higher education institutions in Scotland.\u00a0 The event will appeal to different types of staff, including library service directors, systems librarians, digital library specialists, policy makers, and any staff who make use of the LMS and the facilities it offers.<\/p>\n<p>The event is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, so space may be limited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction to the Day\u00a0 &#8211; 10:00 \u2013 10:30<\/strong> (coffee from 9:30am)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to the Shared LMS for Scotland day \u2013 Mark Toole<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to the JISC LMS Pathfinder Programme &#8211; Ben Showers (JISC)<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Overview of sessions for the day \u2013 Stephanie Taylor, facilitator (Critical Eye Communications)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Session 1 &#8211; 10:30 \u2013 12:00<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What do we need from an LMS?<\/li>\n<li>What does an LMS mean to us?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>12:00 \u2013 12:45 \u2013 Lunch break<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Session 2 &#8211; 12:45 \u2013 14:15<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are there particular areas of work that benefit from a shared LMS?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Session 3 &#8211; 14:15 \u2013 15:30<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Would a shared LMS work for Scotland?
