The top extract is from the correspondence of Jean Bews Paterson who volunteered with the Red Cross after graduation and wrote about her journey to Australia to help with liberated POWs. Her journey included a non-stop 18 hour flight across the Indian Ocean after which she was awarded a certificate making her a member of the “Rare and Elevated Order of the Longest Hop”. From Australia she went to Hong Kong to help with the repatriation of refugees.

The bottom extract is from the correspondence of Margaret Monkley who joined the Grenfell Mission after graduating working with Dr Charles Samuel Curtis. She spent time with the Inuit communities of the Labrador region in Newfoundland.
