E-resources for Korean Studies

With the partial financial support from the Korea Foundation, we have now subscribed to 6 Korean databases of e‐books, e‐journals, bibliographies and newspaper archives covering a wide range of subject areas. The initiative was in response to the emerging Korean Studies programmes in the department of Asian Studies. These databases are all listed in the Databases by Subject for East Asian Studies.

1. Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS)

Full-text database of scholarly articles mainly in Korean, published in some 3,500 journals from 1,200 research institutions in Korea, covering a wide range of subjects in art, humanities, linguistics, social science, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, natural science, physical education, agricultural science, and oceanography. 

2. KSI e-book

Provides 5,400 full-text e-books on arts, language, literature, history, philosophy, religion, social sciences, natural science, technology, and subjects. The books can be read by clicking the [본문읽기] button. Note: Please ignore the prices which are for purchasing printed books only.

3. Chosun Ilbo Archive

It is one of the major newspapers in South Korea, available in PDF format from the first issue (year 1920) to the present.

4. Dong-A Ilbo

It is one of the major newspapers in South Korea, available in PDF format from the first issue(year 1920) to current issue. Dong-A Ilbo Archive can be accessed on the University network only.

5. DBpia

Korean language full text database of about 2,000 Korean scholarly journals in 12 different fields of society, literature, economics & business, medical science, humanities, theology, law & administration, arts, engineering, natural science, and education. All the back issues of each journal title are available. The database is fully searchable by article title, author, keyword, journal title and publisher.

6. KRpia

Korean language e-book database on Koreanology (or Korean Studies) and liberal arts. The database also includes reference resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, guidebooks, bibliographies, and historical records.
