DiscoverEd is the Library’s new discovery service and principal search tool which you should use to find books, e-books, journals, ejournal articles, database content and other materials made available by the Library.
You may have noticed that the Library Catalogue is looking a lot different and that Searcher no longer exists?
Earlier in the summer both the Library Catalogue and Searcher were replaced by DiscoverEd. You can use DiscoverEd to search the Library’s collections and find books, ebooks, ejournal articles and more. And you can sign in to DiscoverEd using EASE to manage loans, requests and fines.
How do I access DiscoverEd?
You can access DiscoverEd direct from http://discovered.ed.ac.uk
DiscoverEd can be searched via the DiscoverEd search points pcs (formerly Library Catalogue machines) in all Library sites. Please note if using DiscoverEd on these machines you cannot sign in and the search is limited to our local collections i.e. books, journal titles, DVDs, etc. See Using DiscoverEd Search Points.
How do I search DiscoverEd?
We’ve worked with staff and students at the University to try to ensure DiscoverEd is an easy way to search the Library’s collections. There is a single search box where you can use keywords to perform your search. Or an Advanced Search option is available for a more focused search.
If you need more help with searching check out our extensive FAQs.
Can I access my Library Account through DiscoverEd?
If you are a member of the University then click on UoE member at top right-hand side and sign in with your EASE username and password. You can then click on the My Account link at top right-hand side to access your Library account. You will be able to see the items you have on loan, you can renew your items, you can check what fines or fees you may have and if you have any requests pending.
If you are an external borrower, SCONUL borrower or alumni borrower click on Non-members and sign in with your library barcode number and password. Then click the My Account link.
If you need more help with signing in or your My Account area check out our extensive FAQs.
We’re putting together some short videos demonstrating how to use DiscoverEd. You can already view How to find a book but more will be available on the University of Edinburgh – Digital Skills and Training YouTube channel.
There is a DiscoverEd Help point running Mon-Fri 9am-5pm in Week 1 and Week 2 of semester, where you can come and ask if you are having any problems with DiscoverEd or just want a bit of help in getting started. From Week 3 onwards the DiscoverEd Help point will run on Tuesdays 11am-3pm for several more weeks. You can find the DiscoverEd Help point on the 1st floor of the Main Library, near the group study pods.
Ask staff at Library Helpdesk or contact the IS Helpline (IS.Helpline@ed.ac.uk).
