What to do with your saved references in Library Catalogue

Have you been saving your search results in the Library Catalogue? If so you will need to look at exporting the references you wish to keep before the University loses access to the Library Catalogue.

In the Library Catalogue you can save results into your “My List” so you can go back to them at a later date if required.

Start making plans now

As the Library Catalogue is being replaced by DiscoverEd you will need to start making plans for exporting those references that you need from the Catalogue to ensure you don’t lose them. The Library Catalogue will become read-only as of 5pm (BST), Wednesday 24th June 2015, so you must export any references you want to keep before this time.

You can export your references from the Library Catalogue into a reference management tool of your choice e.g. Endnote Web, Endnote (desktop), Reference Manager, Mendeley, etc., by choosing the Export option in your My List area in the Library Catalogue.

DiscoverEd has similar functionality to the Library Catalogue in that you can save your search results in your e-shelf. Unlike the Catalogue you can log into your e-shelf with your EASE username and password (no more typing in your long library card number!) and you can create folders within your e-shelf to allow you to better organise your references. If required you can export these references into a reference management tool of your choice.

The Library Catalogue will be switched off as soon as DiscoverEd goes live in the summer so it is important that you start planning now what references you need to keep and where you want to export them to. The Library Catalogue will become read-only as of 5pm (BST), Wednesday 24th June 2015, so you must export any references you want to keep before this time.

Need help exporting the references? Please contact IS.Helpline@ed.ac.uk in the first instance.

Please note you can print and email references from the Library Catalogue as well.

Do you have saved searches in the Library Catalogue?

If so, you should take a note of these searches as soon as possible. Once DiscoverEd goes live you can perform your search or searches again in DiscoverEd. DiscoverEd then allows you to “save queries” when you are logged into the site, so you can save your searches again.

If you have any further queries please contact librarydiscovery@mlist.is.ed.ac.uk
