Oxford Handbooks Online – new content purchased

We have purchased the following e-book collections to add to our existing Oxford Handbooks Online holdings:

These new purchases now bring us fully up to date with all Oxford Handbooks Online content until the end of 2016.  Title lists for the entire collection or subject specific title lists are available at  http://www.oxfordhandbooks.com/page/title-lists

Access

Basic records for each e-book have been added to DiscoverEd, these will be overwritten with fuller records.  Additional titles will be added throughout 2016 as further titles are published.

An entry for Oxford Handbooks Online is also listed on the E-book AZ list and the Databases AZ list.

Africa Wide Information – database trial

africa wide logoThe Library has set up trial access to Africa Wide Information (Ebsco) until 30th June.

Africa-Wide Information comprises an aggregation of 50 databases sourced from Africa, Europe and North America.  Africa-Wide provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary information which documents research and publications by Africans and about Africa.

Africa-Wide covers close to 4 million news articles,  scholarly publications articles, books, reports, theses, citations, and grey literature.  Records include article abstracts and some full text with keyword indexing to enhance relevant retrieval.  The coverage is comprehensive from the 18th century to current and dates back to the 16th century.  Africa-Wide Information is an essential resource for those with an interest in African research and publications and for those doing research in an African context, no matter the subject field.

Trials – e-resources on trial this week

logoDead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library Biblical Texts is on trial until 24th June.  It presents a complete Hebrew transcription and English translation of the Biblical texts, together with high-resolution images (scalable). Access is available for all biblical fragments, including photos of the fragments, texts derived from the fragments in Masoretic order (bible books), English translation from the texts on the fragments and full Hebrew Scripture.

 

logoParliament Rolls of Medieval England database is on trial until 20th June.  The rolls of parliament were the official records of the meetings of the English parliament from the reign of Edward I (1272 – 1307) until the reign of Henry VII (1485 – 1509), after which they were superseded by the journals of the lords and, somewhat later, of the commons. The rolls, which amount in total to over four million words, were first edited in the eighteenth century and published in 1783 in six folio volumes entitled Rotuli Parliamentorum ( RP ) under the general editorship of the Reverend John Strachey.

Trial – Macmillan Cabinet Papers 1957-1963

AM logoWe have trial access to the Macmillan Cabinet Papers 1957-1963 until the 19th February.

Macmillan Cabinet Papers, 1957-1963 provides complete coverage of the Cabinet conclusions (minutes) (CAB 128) and memoranda (CAB 129) of Harold Macmillan’s government, plus selected minutes and memoranda of policy committees (CAB 134).  Further information about the content can be found here.

BFI InView – new e-resource

We now have access to BFI InView.

BFI InView is an online resource which offers a unique window on Britain’s changing political, economic and social landscape in the age of film and television, containing some 1000 hours of non-fiction moving image titles from 1900 to 2005 and 8000 pages of related documents.  Everything can be downloaded for internal use within universities except the Parliamentary material where access is only via streaming.  Access a list of the content here

Trial access to Gunsho Ruiju

We have trial access to Gunsho Ruiju until the 19th December.

Gunsho Ruiju is a collection of old Japanese books published from the ancient times to early Edo era. Subjects cover history, literature, religion, language, customs, art, music, cultivated arts, education, morality, legal codes, politics, economy, society and many other topics. Many textual sources are only available in this collection. This is an important primary resource for the study of classical Japanese culture.

The collection consists of three parts: Gunsho Ruiju, Zoku Gunsho Ruiju, and Zoku Zoku Gunsho Ruiju. The number of volumes for each part is as follows:

Gunsho Ruiju: 133 volumes, 1276 digitally compiled books and sources.
Zoku Gunsho Ruiju: 86 volumes, 2,128 digitally compiled books and sources.
Zoku Zoku Gunsho Ruiju: 17 volumes, 350 digitally compiled books and sources.

Congressional Record – New Database

ProQuest logoWe have purchased the Congressional Record database from ProQuest.

ProQuest Congressional is a comprehensive online collection of primary source congressional publications and legislative research materials covering all topics, including government, current events, politics, economics, business, science and technology, international relations, social issues, finance, insurance, and medicine. Finding aid for congressional hearings, committee prints, committee reports and documents from 1970-present, and the daily Congressional Record from 1985-present. Compiled legislative histories from 1969-present.

The database has been added to our A-Z list and our History A-Z list and will appear on the catalogue soon.
